The London Plasterer - plastering over artex ceilings
The London plasterer was called to this property in SW19 which had recently been purchased. Spread over 3 floors, the client had 12 artex ceilings which she wanted us to plaster over.
The first thing that we did was to ensure that the client had the artex checked to ensure that it did not contain asbestos. When the results came back negatively form a registered asbestos company we were able to carry out our plastering.
There are a few approaches to plastering artex ceilings. The one we opted for here was to plaster over the artex with a coat of bonding. This took out all the high spots & gave us an even surface to skim plaster on to.
Once the bonding coat was dry we were able to apply a 2 coat plaster skim to each ceiling leaving a beautifully smooth polished finish.
Some plasterers opt to simply skim straight over the artex, although we have found that a better finish can be achieved by laying on a bonding coat first. In fact the client was so happy with out plastering work that she called us back to carry out more plastering in her kitchen as well as re-plastering a wall which had been plastered by someone else.
